Avilar’s Competency Management WebShops are a series of web-based workshops that are designed to provide valuable insights and training to individuals and organizations who are interested in learning about competency management and how to use it successfully. WebShops are conducted via the web, using web-conferencing software so that attendees can view live presentations and receive advice relevant to their organization’s needs and goals. Each WebShop covers a topic which is addressed in greater detail during one of Avilar’s in-person, Full Day Workshops. If you are unable to attend a Full Day Workshop, these WebShops are a great alternative.
Competency Management WebShops last 1 hour and can be attended by up to 8 people from a single organization. Following the WebShop, you will receive a copy of the presentation materials and a certificate for 15% off the initial setup price for WebMentor Skills — our web-based competency management system.

Competency Management 101: Basics for Beginners
If you’re curious about what competency management is and how organizations use it, but have never been exposed to it, you get a good background in this session. We define basic terms and discuss a variety of case studies that illustrate how today’s organizations are using competency management as a competitive advantage.
Developing a Competency Model that Works for your Organization
A valid competency model can be the cornerstone of getting the right people in the door, getting them up to speed quickly, keeping them engaged and planning to fill the gap they leave when they retire. Learn how dozens of organizations have leveraged competency management to make an impact in their workforce from “hire to retire.” In this session, we cover sources of competency and skills dictionaries, how to conduct critical event interviews and expert panels, and how to develop a model that will differentiate your organization from others.
Best Practices in Skills Assessments
With some thoughtful preparation, foresight, and some knowledge about how to avoid some of the most common errors, your assessments will yield results you can really use. This session outlines a number of tips and tricks, learned through decades of competency management work by practitioners and consultants, on how to give the most effective, efficient and meaningful competency assessments for your organization.
Best Practices in Development Planning
What is individual development planning and why do so few organizations do it well? How can competency management ensure that people have the capabilities for their current jobs? How does career planning fit into the picture? How should development planning and performance management be integrated? What are the benefits of automating development planning compared with decentralized or paper-and-pencil systems? Join us to learn the answers to the above questions and find out how this single competency-based initiative can bring your organization numerous benefits.
Creating Two-way Communication Pathways with All Your Stakeholders
No matter how well you’ve designed and developed your workforce initiative, poor communication can lead to disaster. In this interactive session, you identify your stakeholders, anticipate their interests and concerns, begin to create a communication plan and timetable, identify critical considerations for crafting and delivering your messages, develop a plan to tune in to stakeholder reaction and change course if indicated.
