System Requirements
Your WebMentor Skills system can be up and running in as little as one day on Avilar's servers using our powerful Application Service Provider (ASP) hosting environment. Customers who prefer to install and run the application on their own in-house servers may also license the application. Avilar supports both deployment models.
To install and run WebMentor Skills in-house, your system must meet the
following minimum requirements:
- OS: Windows Server 2003
- Processor: Intel Pentium Processor (2.2 GHz or faster)
- Disk Space: 100MB free hard disk space
- Memory: 2GB RAM
- Web Server: Microsoft IIS 6.0 (or later)
- DBMS: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (or
later)
- Adobe ColdFusion 7 (Standard Ed.)
Avilar recommends the following server configurations based on the number of simultaneous users that you expect to support.
100 Users
- Windows 2003 Server/IIS6
- SQL Server 2005
- 2.4 GHz P4 CPU
- 2 GB RAM
- 80 GB HD 7200 RPM
1000 Users
- Windows 2003 Server/IIS6
- SQL Server 2005
- 2 x 2.8 GHz Intel Xeon Processors, 1 MB Cache
- 2 GB RAM
- 3 x 73 GB 10K RPM SCSI Hard Drive U320 (RAID5 preferable)
10,000 Users
For 10,000 or more users, we recommend a dual-server configuration.
Web Server
- Windows 2003 Server/II6
- 2 x 3.4 GHz Intel Xeon Processors, 1 MB Cache, 800Mhz FSB
- 4 GB RAM
- 2 x 73 GB 10K RPM SCSI Hard Drive U320 (RAID1)
- Gigabit Network
Database Server
- Windows 2003 Server
- SQL Server 2005
- 2 x 3.4 GHz Intel Xeon Processors, 1 MB Cache, 800 Mhz FSB
- 4 GB RAM
- 3 x 73 GB 10K RPM SCSI Hard Drives U320 (RAID5)
- Gigabit Network
As user loads increase, consider the following upgrades in the order indicated.
- Increase # of Processors
- Increase RAM
- Increase disk RPM
- Add Storage Area Network (SAN)
- Increase bandwidth
To improve system reliability/availability, consider the following options in the
order indicated.
- Dual Power Supplies
- RAID 1 for Web Server or RAID 5 for DB/Combined Server
- External Backup disk or tape drive
- UPS sized appropriately
- Database cluster
- Automated failover
